Durriwiyn

Jamaine Wilesmith is a genre-merging Indigenous singer-songwriter from Taree, NSW.

A proud Biripi and Worimi man — sound, rhythm, and storytelling are in his makeup. He is the vessel through which his ancestors manifest music. His songs express a vivid inner life where regular words fall short. Largely self-taught, Jamaine’s songwriting is fuelled by intuition. He’ll work from feel, give himself a scale, and create a sound from there.

‘Durriwiyn’ is the product of Jamaine Wilesmith’s Jekyll and Hyde psyche. It’s born of an artistic alliance between Wilesmith’s obedient and grounded self, and his darker, more disruptive, daring self. One brings the fire, the other contains the flame. Listeners of Durriwiyn can expect a sound that mirrors the duality and diversity—the conflict and collaboration—of the creator’s two sides. Think ambient instrumentals cut with tense rhythm, whisper-soft verses gilded with soaring falsettos.

Durriwiyn’s singles ‘Little Bird’ and ‘Fade Away’ are out now.
