The character and textural variation available in the flute format enhance the possibilities for creative and flexible programming.

SignWaves first album, New Works for Flute Ensemble, was released on February 9, 2024 through Corella Recordings, aiming to exhibit the incredible expressive range of the flute, from velvety lyricism to percussive attacks, and from the bass flute to the piccolo.

New Works for Flute Ensemble was preceeded by the single ‘Aromatic Dance’ in 2023. An entrancing single-movement work by UQ composer and flautist Monash Lal, ‘Aromatic Dance’ explored the flute’s percussive capabilities.

SignWaves

SignWaves is a collective of flautists from The University of Queensland. The group brings a diverse range of flute repertoire of varying ensemble sizes from solo flute to flute choir to delight a diversity of audiences.

SignWaves was formed in 2020, and have performed in a variety of venues from cathedrals, art galleries, atriums, and outdoor settings to standard concert venues.
