CutCommon premieres Flora Wong’s ‘Escapement’ Video

By: Krystle Campbell

Flora Wong’s video for ‘Escapement’ featuring Jodie Rottle and composed by Chris Perren premiered on the Australian classical music CutCommon website on Thursday night! The award-winning, independent publication interviewed Flora to gain insight as to how she was feeling about the debut single. Flora emphasised the significance of the live performance video format for capturing the piece in its fullest and most uplifting expression, and also touches on her upcoming boundary-pushing Geburtstag EP, featuring other local composers including Connor D’Netto, MJ O’Neill, and Kezia Yap, which is soon to be released through Corella Recordings.

Witness Flora’s, as Perren describes, ‘richly expressive yet tenaciously precise’ performance on the very violin being celebrated—crafted for her by Master Violinmaker Helge Grawert—in spirited musical exchange with Jodie’s controlled accompaniment—in an inventive subversion of function—on metronome (gifted by Simply For Strings).

Hear more from Flora TONIGHT (Sunday, June 5th) on 4ZZZ’s Rusted Satellites from 6pm, where she’ll chat with Cieon and Kurt, and debut ‘Escapement’ on 4ZZZ radio!
