Horizons - Abigail Lui & Sophia Mackson
Format: Digital Album
Release date: April 17, 2025
Horizons is an album of new chamber compositions by emerging composer-performers Abigail Lui and Sophia Mackson. Tied together by themes of journeying, it begins with Mackson’s “Centre” for two violas, inspired by notions of centring oneself, and performed by the composer and Helena Burns. We embark then on Lui’s piano trio Wayfarers, its three movements exploring themes of longing, loss, and the mending of oneself and one’s community amidst grief. It is performed by Lui’s own trio, Cerulean Collective. The journey concludes with a radical re-imagining of “Centre” by multi-disciplinary artist and violinist, Flora Wong.
