Flora Wong - ‘Escapement’ - Single + Video Release
By: Krystle Campbell
ESCAPEMENT SINGLE AND VIDEO
“Escapement” comes out on May 27; a playful contemporary work by composer Chris Perren, performed by Flora Wong and Jodie Rottle. The work foregrounds rhythmic interplay between the violin and a mechanical metronome “played” by Jodie, elevating the status of this common practice tool to that of a true musical instrument. Its release is accompanied by a live performance video that captures Flora’s effortless execution of the intricate rhythms of the piece and Jodie Rottle’s surgeon-like manipulation of the metronome.

GEBURTSTAG EP OUT JUNE 10
The upcoming single Escapement is Flora’s first offering from her forthcoming EP, Geburtstag.
The release consists of four new works created in celebration of ten years of making music with her bespoke Helge Grawert violin. Collaborating with composers Connor D’Netto, MJ O’Neill, Chris Perren and Kezia Yap, Flora explores a wide range of approaches to her instrument, including densely layered live-looping, live electronics producing ethereal spectral effects, a duet with a mechanical metronome, and of course the powerfully expressive solo violin.
