On the 88th day of each year, music fans worldwide celebrate Piano Day, a day of appreciation for this gorgeous instrument and the spellbinding sounds that it makes. Corella Recordings will mark the occasion with the release of a compilation album of new solo piano works from local (or local-ish) composers and performers. Featuring compositions by Madeleine Cocolas, Connor D’Netto, Anthony Moles, Alexandra Mison, Piers Connor Kennedy, and Ben Marshall, and performances from Samuel Mitchell, Daniel Johnson, Mac Johnson, and Alexandra Mison (performing her own compositions). UQ’s Steinway Grand Piano is taken on a journey through lush melodic landscapes, pulsing motoric circuits, battering storms, and calm oceans, encapsulating the diversity of what the piano means to contemporary composers.
